The morning adhkar (remembrance) are a collection of supplications established by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited after the Fajr prayer. They act as a spiritual shield against anxiety, laziness, harm, and the whispers of Shaytan, guaranteeing a blessed and productive day.
Best Time to Read
The most superior time for these adhkar is from the entrance of Fajr time until sunrise. However, if one forgets or is busy, reading them anytime before Dhuhr is perfectly acceptable.
"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great."
Allahu la ilaha illa Huwa, Al-Hayyul-Qayyum. La ta'khudhuhu sinatun wa la nawm, lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil-'ard. Man dhal-ladhi yashfa'u 'indahu illa bi-idhnihi.
Benefit: Whoever recites this in the morning will be protected from jinn until the evening. (Al-Hakim 1/562)
"O Allah, You are my Lord, there is none worthy of worship but You. You created me and I am Your slave. I keep Your covenant, and my pledge to You so far as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I admit to Your blessings upon me, and I admit to my misdeeds. Forgive me, for there is none who may forgive sins but You."
Benefit: Whoever recites this with certainty in the morning and dies during that day will enter Paradise. (Sahih Al-Bukhari 6306)
The optimal time for morning adhkar is between the start of Fajr (dawn) and sunrise. However, if one oversleeps or forgets, they can be recited anytime during the morning before Dhuhr prayer.
Do I have to read all the morning adhkar?
While it is highly recommended to read the complete set of morning adhkar for maximum protection and reward, reading even a few is better than reading none. Consistency is key in Islam. Start with the easiest ones—like Ayatul Kursi and the 3 Quls—and gradually add more to your daily habit.
Can I read them without Wudu (ablution)?
Yes. It is entirely permissible to recite dhikr and adhkar without wudu, though being in a state of purity is always better and more highly rewarded.
