Virtues & Background of Surah Al-Muzammil

Surah Al-Muzammil is the 73rd chapter of the Quran, containing 20 verses. The word "Al-Muzammil" refers to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who wrapped himself in his garments out of the awe and terror of the first revelation.

The Importance of Night Prayer

The early verses of this Surah outline the immense spiritual training of the Prophet ﷺ through Tahajjud (the night prayer). Standing in prayer deep in the night is described as the best time for concentration and for the heart to align with the tongue in recitation.

Seeking Ease

Tradition holds that reciting Surah Al-Muzammil is a profound way to ask Allah for ease during times of distress, anxiety, or financial difficulty. It reminds the believer of total reliance on Allah: "[He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs." (73:9).
