Virtues & Background of Surah Yasin

Surah Yasin is the 36th chapter of the Quran and contains 83 verses. Often referred to as "the heart of the Quran," it focuses primarily on the establishment of the Quran as divine revelation, the prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ, and the reality of resurrection and the afterlife.

The Heart of the Quran

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is reported to have said:

"Everything has a heart, and the heart of the Quran is Yasin. Whoever recites Yasin, Allah will record for him the reward of reciting the Quran ten times."
— Sunan al-Tirmidhi (Da'if, but widely accepted for virtues of deeds)

When to Recite

It is highly recommended in Islamic tradition to recite Surah Yasin during times of difficulty, illness, and particularly over those who are dying or have passed away, as it brings ease, mercy, and peace to the soul.
